Colby (50’s). John (40’s) and Tyler (30’s) “serve up” emotionally compelling content around life, business and relationships. We are a “quickcast” or a car ride to work and a car ride home. In sports GOAT’s are easy to see as they are recognized for the greatness. What they do elevates the play of those around them. But, in business, GOAT’s are harder to see. They compete on unique perspective, unique education and unique experience. What they do gives them energy and gives other people energy creating new loves of challenge and new levels of opportunity. Ep. 19: 2021 Valentine's Edition: Why Does Trust Matter?
Monday Feb 15, 2021
Monday Feb 15, 2021
In this episode Colby, John, and Tyler discuss the question, "Why does trust matter"? You've heard it said before. "I have to trust you." "You have to trust me." "We have to trust each other." How would YOU answer this question? Does trust really matter? How do you build trust? Since it's our Valentines episode, we can't talk about trust without talking about love, and the different levels of the emotion. We say, "I love that shirt," "I love the USA," or even "I love you." In relationships, when we are asking for or trying to build trust, we are asking for someone's love in a small or big way—it's hard because loving is hard. CS Lewis said it this way, "To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable. " GOATs to include Mr. Miagi, Stephen Covey, Steve Burnett, and so many more! Ep. 18: How GOATS Create Value
Monday Feb 08, 2021
Monday Feb 08, 2021
Peter Drucker, the business philosopher, stated that in the Knowledge Economy we are commanded to do two things: know and understand our value and put ourselves in a position to use it. Simply put, "do what you do best and outsource the rest." In this episode Colby, John, and Tyler talk about the idea of creating value in the marketplace of ideas. Value creation begins with understanding your unique perspective (how you see what you do), unique education (how you know what you do), and unique experience (how you deliver what you do). Being able to understand and articulate these allows for you to live in and through “high value” activities that give you energy and give other people energy. They create new levels of challenge while also creating new levels of opportunity. GOATs to include Drucker, Vilfredo Pareto, Max and his cucumber story and so many more! Ep. 14: Your Facts Don't Matter
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Monday Jan 11, 2021
Tipping our hat to the younger generation, the word “FACTS” now has become part of everyday conversation. In 2020, “FACTS” is teen slang that means to imply truthfulness to a comment made by someone. It also means that you agree with a statement, or the statement someone said is right. In other words, an opinion should be a fact because it’s true or you agree with it. But what is really going on here? In this episode Colby, John and Tyler pose the question – do facts matter? The economist J.K. Galbraith once wrote, “Faced with a choice between changing one’s mind and proving there is no need to do so, almost everyone gets busy with the proof.” Leo Tolstoy was even bolder by stating, “The most difficult subjects can be explained to the most slow-witted man if he has not formed any idea of them already; but the simplest thing cannot be made clear to the most intelligent man if he is firmly persuaded that he knows already, without a shadow of doubt, what is laid before him.” What's going on here? Do facts matter? How do such behaviors serve us? Bottom line, facts don’t change people’s minds, framing and connection/relationship do. GOATS to include Dolly Parton and so many more! We serve it up in a way that you can get it!
